Is This Site for You?

This web site is dedicated to the women and men who operate the world's 200+ legal state operated lotteries. We have spent a career researching, writing and reporting on the global lottery industry.

There is little information that the average lottery player would find of value. The statistics we collect are by and large countable numbers audited by professionals collected and published by us. We primarily track information on lottery sales, prizes and net profit to government, advertising budgets and game design--both for TLF Publications' annual books (such as La Fleur's World Lottery Almanac) and our monthly magazine (La Fleur's Magazine).

Lotteries Send Winners on MDI-Hosted Trip of a Lifetime

Alpharetta, GA – June 25, 2012 – MDI Entertainment, LLC, a subsidiary of Scientific Games Corporation (Nasdaq:SGMS), recently hosted nearly 500 lottery winners and their guests from 20 lotteries for the Wheel of Fortune® 2nd Chance grand prize trip in Hollywood, California. The experiential prize was awarded via 2nd Chance drawings players entered using non-winning Wheel of Fortune instant game tickets. MDI licensed the game show brand for lotteries, built the 2nd Chance entry websites, created marketing and advertising materials including radio and television commercials, and handled travel arrangements and entertainment for the winners and their guests.

Winners were able to invite up to three guests each for the four-night trip that included accommodations at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and prize-winning opportunities at Sony Pictures Studios. Winners and their guests visited Sony Pictures Studios and Wheel of Fortune’s Stage 11 twice during their Hollywood stay. Every trip winner had the opportunity to spin the Wheel of Fortune wheel, and most took home cash prizes from their spins, including three who won $10,000 each.

Two random drawings were held on the Wheel of Fortune Stage. One selected winners to participate in a “Million Dollar Spin,” with a potential top prize of $1 Million, and the other selected participants for non-broadcast games of Wheel of Fortune with the show’s stars, Pat Sajak and Vanna White. Three participants each won a Chevrolet® Camaro® convertible, 10 participants won trips, and $481,445 in cash prizes were awarded in 10 non-broadcast games over the course of two days.

“This was our biggest and most complex linked game trip to date,” said Steve Saferin, President, Properties Group and Chief Creative Officer for Scientific Games. “We hosted over 500 winners, guests and staff, and it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them. Everyone got to walk on the Wheel of Fortune stage, every winner got to spin the Wheel of Fortune wheel at least once, and several even played the game with Pat and Vanna. The team at Sony was extremely welcoming and accommodating to all of the trip participants, and helped ensure that everyone enjoyed themselves and left with great memories.”

“It was our pleasure to host the lottery winners as well as the staff of MDI and the state lotteries on our stage,” said Harry Friedman, Executive Producer of Wheel of Fortune. “We are always looking for exciting ways to reach our fans and this game allowed us to offer a rare experience to a wonderful group of people, who might not otherwise get the opportunity.”

In addition to enjoying the exceptional opportunities on the Wheel of Fortune stage, trip winners and their guests were treated to a tour and lunch on the Sony Pictures Studios lot, as well as a private screening of a feature film not yet released to the general public. Other highlights of the trip included a poolside welcome party with food and entertainment at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Cirque de Soleil tickets for winners and their guests, a “winner’s choice” day trip to one of three popular destinations in the Los Angeles area and a “farewell gala” at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

Most lotteries participating in the Wheel of Fortune linked game will have one final million dollar drawing opportunity among 2nd Chance entries taking place this fall. The Wheel of Fortune linked game will remain on sale in some jurisdictions until this final drawing takes place.

Some lotteries have enhanced exposure to their game by connecting their 2nd Chance promotions to the highly popular Wheel of Fortune Facebook game, which was created by GSN Digital, the interactive division of GSN (Game Show Network). Through its relationship with GSN Digital, MDI has offered this option to lotteries to enable them to award “Wheel Gold,” an exciting virtual goods prize, to players entering the Wheel of Fortune instant game 2nd Chance drawing. Players can use the Wheel Gold to play the Facebook game.

Lotteries have enjoyed strong sales with the Wheel of Fortune instant game. It sold out after just 22 weeks in one jurisdiction, and was reordered by another soon after its initial start of sale date because it was selling so well. Other linked games currently offered by MDI are The Price Is Right® and the Las Vegas Game Show Experience, featuring six of television’s most popular game shows of all time.
